"Another Gay Sequel: Guys Gone Wild" to Film in South Florida.

Those of you that remember the hilarious "Another Gay Movie" that was out a few years ago, might already know that a sequel is in the works. "Another Gay Sequel: Guys Gone Wild" is set to start production and filming this month in South Florida! They just wrapped up open casting calls for some main characters, but I've seen some signs for 'extras' all over town. The sequel follows the group to Ft. Lauderdale. I can't wait to see what they use for the 'location shots'.

If you are in SoFla for the White Party (or any other party for that matter)...keep your eyes open for the posters and film crew. That would be prime time to catch some of the hottest guys in the world. That would be Thanksgiving week. The posters say "must look good in a swimsuit". I'd like to be an extra for the extras!

So Where are the Gay Beaches in South Florida?

Good question! There are actually quite a few. I'll give a short rundown of each and I'll explore them more in depth one by one in later posts. While most SoFla beaches embrace their gay visitors...the ones listed here are the most gay friendly.

Ft. Lauderdale Area-

*Ft. Lauderdale Beach: The most popular 'gay beach' section is found at the A1A / Sebastian intersection. There are a few gay guest houses in the area and a lot of the restaurants are gay friendly. It's right around the 'Beach Place' Entertainment Complex. You really can't miss it. If you are walking down the strip, you will see the crowd change to almost all men. On the weekends you may want to get there early to get a good spot. Don't forget to visit the nearby city of Wilton Manors in the evenings for a drink or a bite to eat. (one of the highest gay populations per capita in the US.)

Dania Beach: Not the most gay beach around...but Dania has a huge antique store district. Catch some sun then go to US1 for some antiquing.

Miami/Dade County-

*Haulover 'Clothing Optional' Beach: This beach has quite the reputation of being one of the hottest 'nude' beaches in the US. Maybe that is because it's so close to Miami. The clothing optional section of the beach is on the North side of the park. The gay nude section even has a volleyball court! That could either be really hot to watch...or very painful...

South Beach: I'm sure you've heard about this place. It's located at the southern tip of Miami Beach and is super trendy. It's gotten really crowded over the years and very expensive. But it is still home to the hottest men around. There is still a big gay presence here, but the number is dwindling due to the high cost and well lets face it...us gays like to find the next best place! It's a great spot and comparable to a NYC neighborhood if it were on a beach. The popular gay 'stretch' of beach is located at 12th Street.

Key West-

Smather's Beach: Not the best sandy beach around the keys...well the Keys are made up of small islands made out of coral, so believe it or not...you don't see that many beaches there. It's actually a man=made beach and is very calm. Lets face it. If you're going to Key West, chances are you are there for the party scene.

Wite Party is Here in 3 Weeks! How Time Flies!

The 23rd Annual White Party week kicks off November 21 and lasts until November 26. Most of the events are held in Miami/South Beach with a few events in Ft. Lauderdale. White Party used to be only for those into the 'circuit party' scene...you know, shaved muscle gods dancing all nite with eyes bugging out of their heads (not that I don't like partying with them) ... but you can find all kinds of people attending the events. They also have different types of events that will certainly draw a diverse crowd.

Cyndi Lauper will be the big performer at this year's Villa Vizcaya event on November 25 (Saturday). I've seen Cyndi live twice and she puts on a GREAT show. Once in NYC during gay pride and once at a Bookstore for a CD signing. I really like her and she does a lot for the gay community.

There are so many events I can't list them all...so you might want to check out their website:

I've been to a few of the events over the years and don't find myself enjoying the huge mega parties as much now. I guess it's like the 'been there done that'. They can get kind of wild though (I guess I do miss that a bit). Being caught between 2 muscle guys on the dance floor is always a good time. Especially if they are there to just let loose and have fun. I always enjoyed being the welcome wagon for the tourists :)

Ft. Lauderdale has the White Hot Leather Ball event this year. Might be of interest if you are into the more into manly men (more than shaved muscle bunnies). Leather bars are always fun and can imagine how wild this party will get.

Check the website for ticket prices for the events and purchase early if you are interested because they tend to sell out. You probably should book a hotel ahead of time as well. Check the Ads to the right on this page, there are some good hotel/guest house deals.

So Where's the Gay Movie Theaters...or at Least the Best Ones?

In the mood for a movie? Where are the most fabulous movie theaters around South Florida? Well is all depends on what your preference is. Lets break down a few on the South East Coast of Florida.

Miami-Dade County- The Regal Cinema South Beach. It's right at the end of the famous Lincoln Road Mall. The section of Lincoln road is a pedestrian mall..(closed to car traffic except for cross streets) to allow countless shoppers the opportunity to stroll, shop, eat and people watch. There are even some popular gay hangouts dotted through this strip. Once filled with local 'Mom & Pop' shops, it's now home to many cafes, bars and retail shops. Some fellow gays might tell you it's lost it's charm, but I beg to differ. The movie theater sports stadium seating and has plenty of 'eye candy' for those on a diet (South Beach has some hot hot people). It's a great place to take a date, a new friend or go solo. First-run movies are the flavor here.

Broward (Ft. Lauderdale)- The Gateway (on Sunrise Blvd and US1). Some call this theater the 'Gayway'...for good reason. It's located in the trendy 'Victoria Park' neighborhood and it's more of an 'indi' film house. Most of the gay movies that are released premier here. It's not the most glamorous cinema around, but one with the most character. It's been around since the 1950's and still manages to pack them in. Very impressive for Florida...let alone the fickle gay community. There are some restaurants within walking distance that are local gay favorites as well so this makes for a great date with someone special. You won't even get a second look for holding hands with your partner. Fun Fact: There was even an Abercrombie & Fitch photo shoot done at this place for one of it's catalogs a few years back.

Palm Beach County- Muvico Paradise (Boca Raton). This is the 'Lexus' of the movie theaters in South Florida. This place isn't 'super' gay friendly, but the overall grandness of it, might make you not care. It's not like you'll have issues here, but it is very family friendly (real family...like kids) and it's also near FAU (Florida Atlantic University) so you get a good mix. The venue is split into 2 theaters. the 'Premier Theater' and the general cinema.

The Premier Theater has a full dinner menu and serves alcohol. Of course it costs more, but you can make a whole evening out of it. The seats are huge and it's reserved for adults only. (Nooo..it's not a porn theater..) The general cinema side is one of my favorites. The snack bar actually services hot food (fried foods and some other light fare like burgers) and they let you put your own butter on your popcorn. Stadium seats are really comfortable and it feels more upscale than your typical venue. Again, first run movies only. Side note: The Boca Towne Center is close by for some great shopping.

For those of you looking for more of the 'adult' experience (wink-wink, nudge-nudge)....keep checking the site back for new posts and I'm sure you won't be sorry.
