So Where's the Gay Movie Theaters...or at Least the Best Ones?

In the mood for a movie? Where are the most fabulous movie theaters around South Florida? Well is all depends on what your preference is. Lets break down a few on the South East Coast of Florida.

Miami-Dade County- The Regal Cinema South Beach. It's right at the end of the famous Lincoln Road Mall. The section of Lincoln road is a pedestrian mall..(closed to car traffic except for cross streets) to allow countless shoppers the opportunity to stroll, shop, eat and people watch. There are even some popular gay hangouts dotted through this strip. Once filled with local 'Mom & Pop' shops, it's now home to many cafes, bars and retail shops. Some fellow gays might tell you it's lost it's charm, but I beg to differ. The movie theater sports stadium seating and has plenty of 'eye candy' for those on a diet (South Beach has some hot hot people). It's a great place to take a date, a new friend or go solo. First-run movies are the flavor here.

Broward (Ft. Lauderdale)- The Gateway (on Sunrise Blvd and US1). Some call this theater the 'Gayway'...for good reason. It's located in the trendy 'Victoria Park' neighborhood and it's more of an 'indi' film house. Most of the gay movies that are released premier here. It's not the most glamorous cinema around, but one with the most character. It's been around since the 1950's and still manages to pack them in. Very impressive for Florida...let alone the fickle gay community. There are some restaurants within walking distance that are local gay favorites as well so this makes for a great date with someone special. You won't even get a second look for holding hands with your partner. Fun Fact: There was even an Abercrombie & Fitch photo shoot done at this place for one of it's catalogs a few years back.

Palm Beach County- Muvico Paradise (Boca Raton). This is the 'Lexus' of the movie theaters in South Florida. This place isn't 'super' gay friendly, but the overall grandness of it, might make you not care. It's not like you'll have issues here, but it is very family friendly (real family...like kids) and it's also near FAU (Florida Atlantic University) so you get a good mix. The venue is split into 2 theaters. the 'Premier Theater' and the general cinema.

The Premier Theater has a full dinner menu and serves alcohol. Of course it costs more, but you can make a whole evening out of it. The seats are huge and it's reserved for adults only. (Nooo..it's not a porn theater..) The general cinema side is one of my favorites. The snack bar actually services hot food (fried foods and some other light fare like burgers) and they let you put your own butter on your popcorn. Stadium seats are really comfortable and it feels more upscale than your typical venue. Again, first run movies only. Side note: The Boca Towne Center is close by for some great shopping.

For those of you looking for more of the 'adult' experience (wink-wink, nudge-nudge)....keep checking the site back for new posts and I'm sure you won't be sorry.
